Ryszard Basiura's Story

Ryszard Basiura started September 3, 2008 like any normal day. How the day would
end and his new life would begin was a suprise to us all. While driving to work that
morning my dad complained of a horrible headache that was immediately followed
by a numbness and weakening of his left arm and blinding of his vision. Luckily for
my father one of his workers was driving with him and drove him straight to the
emergency room. We were later informed moments after walking through the emergency
doors my father collapsed.

He was transferred to the closest hospital in Valpariaso, Indiana where a CT scan
revealed a ruptured posterior cerebral aneurysm. Due to the size of his aneurysm,
the medical staff at the hospital decided in his best interest to immediately transport
him to Indianapolis, where he was admitted to Indiana University Hospital.

My dad had a right hemisphere posterior cerebral aneurysm that began to rupture which
in turn caused him to suffer a major stroke. Upon admittance in Indianapolis, my father
was completely paralyzed on his left side. His first week and half there he underwent
several surgeries to secure his aneurysm and save his life. We waited for over two weeks
patiently and prayed daily for him to wake up from his coma.

My father finally woke up from his coma and slowly started to recover. His right side was
regaining strength and his speech came back word by word. Just in time for his 55th
Birthday my dad started acute rehabilitation. He spent 3 1/2 weeks there starting his
journey to recovery and his new life.
